The Elizabeth Borough is located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, approximately sixteen miles south of the city of Pittsburgh. Initially founded as Elizabeth Town in 1787 in honor of the wife of town founder Colonel Stephen Bayard, Elizabeth was incorporated on April 2, 1834 as Elizabeth Borough. Present-day Elizabeth is home to a population of approximately 1,500 residents who enjoy the semi-rural setting, affordable cost of living, and beautiful seasonal climate that is common to the region.
Situated on the eastern shores of the Monongahela River and just west of the Youghiogheny River, Elizabeth offers a world of opportunities for outdoor sports and recreation. The Mon River offers excellent fishing, as well as hiking, hunting, and camping, while the Yough River is excellent for white-water rafting and canoeing. Elizabeth is also home to the Youghiogheny River Trail, popular with hikers, bikers, joggers, and cross-country skiers.
